WHAT IS LINE EDITING?
Line Editing is the most important form of editing since it checks your basic spelling, grammar, and punctuation while also enhancing the tone, correcting the inconsistency, and styling your writing. The manuscript is read line-by-line so as to make it technically ready for further reviewing or publication.
WHY WOULD I NEED A LINE EDITOR?
Because there’s always a comma you’ve missed or a catchphrase used for the wrong character. A professional line editor scrutinises and corrects the language for proper word usage so your document isn’t filled with overused words or misused words. Replacing and rearranging sentences or phrases will allow your manuscript to adorn its strengths all the more. Not only this, a line editor checks the story for the perfect structuring and transitional phrasing so as to improve the flow of a story and make it more readable.
WHY DO I NEED YOU AS MY LINE EDITOR?
As a self-taught editor, I consider myself to have an understanding of both the basics as well as the practical knowledge of what works best for the story in terms of technicality and language. I’m aware that each story has its own way of being recited and that a set of enforced rules will not allow the story to be told in the best way possible. So I use the basic rules of the English language but work around sentences and phrases and overall structuring by adhering to my mindset as a developmental editor and as a beta reader–understanding what the readers would love to read.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM YOUR LINE EDITING?
From rephrasing sentences to spotting catachresis, your manuscript will be error-free and easier to read without changing your vision.
- Sentence structuring
- Rephrasing sentences in a scene
- Dialogues
- Scene frameworks
- Relativity of words
- Grammar and punctuation
- Tense consistency
In addition to all these, you can expect a consistent communication and constructive honesty.
I also offer rewriting in order to strengthen a manuscript even further. For instance, your scene might be in need of more description or a sentence can sound better if replaced by another sentence. In such cases, an extra cost will be charged according to the base price of 20 cents for every word written. Though, it’s fine if you don’t want to avail this additional service. You can choose not to do so while filling out the form.
All these can be delivered in a .doc or .pdf file. Plus, the Google Doc would be shared along with the author to keep them posted on the process and for us to reach points of conclusion together.
WHAT ARE YOU WILLING TO EDIT?
I’m open to editing any and all fictional as well as non-fictional works of any and all demographics [middle grade, young adult, new adult, and adult]. My favourites would be science fiction, fantasy, contemporary, literary fiction, realistic fiction, and mystery/thrillers. Since I’m an eclectic reader, I can read and analyse most of the genres so feel free to contact me for further clarification.
I will not read erotic, religious/spiritual, and poetry. Coarse language and few sex scenes are absolutely fine.
HOW MUCH WILL YOU CHARGE FOR THIS SERVICE?
I work on an hourly basis according to $20/hr with 8 pages edited every hour. The cost will be calculated based on the number of pages of the manuscript.
For example, if a manuscript has 200 pages, it will take exactly 25 hours to edit the entire story. According to the base price, 25 x $20 = $500 will be the cost of this order.
If you’re ordering a rewriting service in the package, there would be an additional charge of 20 cents per word I write. I also offer discounts on repeat offers or revisions, which can vary but starts at an impressive 25%.
I’m flexible to authors who work on a strict budget so don’t be afraid to contact me for a custom quote. All payments are non-refundable–except for rare cases–and will be done through Paypal* with half the amount being sent before the editing and remaining half once the edits are delivered.
Please bear in mind, each page of the manuscript should be of the standard manuscript format, i.e, any monospaced serif font with a size of 12 and each line to be double spaced. Understand it in more detail here.
WHAT’S YOUR TURNAROUND TIME?
I work on a schedule so slotting is done according to first come, first serve basis. Also, slots will be awarded only once the first half of the payment is done. The turnaround time depends on the number of pages and the consequent hours to devote to the manuscript. If you’re on a deadline and would like a faster turnaround, you can request so but beware of the additional charges it may cost. Contact me for more details.
CAN I HAVE A SAMPLE EDIT? ๏ปฟ
Sure! I’m open to providing a sample edit** using the suggestions feature on Google Docs for up to 500 words. Though, there are attached samples on this page that can help you get a hint of my work.
