what are you currently reading? ✨ just started 'nura and the immortal palace' by m.t. khan today! it has a fierce twelve-year-old girl, a rural town in pakistan, missing children, a twisted portal world, a morally grey jinn, a commentary on child labour, and dark secrets.
happy friday! hope everyone finds happiness this weekend 🌼 since june is coming to an end, i thought of doing a mid-year book freakout tag. the year hasn't been the best but i've finally gotten to a more peaceful place and so excited for what the rest of the year will bring. anyway, here's the tag ✨

🌼 what do you affectionately call a lover in your language? 🌺 while i recommend The Gilded Wolves by Roshani Chokshi for a lot of things (the magic system not being one of those, haha) it's the characters and the found family trope that truly wins. Not to mention how much of a queen Laila is; you just can't help but love her! And in the long list of great things about this book is this word "majnun" that Laila uses to address Severin, her love interest. Those who know know the cultural context but i don't wish to spoil the reason behind 'why' she calls him that (readers come to know about it in the sequel) for others. I guess it's these little things that not only makes a reader appreciate the romance more but also feel grateful for representation.

🌼 what classic have you been meaning to read since forever? ✨ i haven't been an avid reader of classics, though 1984 is one of my absolute favorites and i reread it every year, but i definitely hope to read jane austen books this year. i have always heard great things about them and maybe i'll also have fun annotating them!
first pov is cute i guess but third person pov always wins
writers not letting the mc and the love interest kiss till the last few chapters is one thing but what about no kiss till the sequel? i'm reading the dragon's promise by elizabeth lim, which is the upcoming sequel to six crimson cranes, and the way i've been rooting for the mc and her love interest from their very first scene together in the previous book...and realising they haven't even kissed and i'm halfway through the next book. wow, i'm so here for such torture by authors!
